Plagiarism Screening Policy

Zero Tolerance for Academic Misconduct

Nova Journal of Computer Science and Intelligent Systems (NJCSIS) upholds strict standards of academic integrity and scientific quality. Plagiarism, data falsification, and improper citation practices are considered serious violations of publishing ethics. All submitted manuscripts undergo mandatory, automated plagiarism screening prior to being assigned for peer review.

Screening Protocol & Similarity Thresholds

NJCSIS utilizes Turnitin Similarity / iThenticate as its primary detection tool. The screening workflow adheres to the following criteria:

Acceptable Similarity Criteria

Manuscripts submitted to NJCSIS must meet strict similarity parameters before advancing to peer review:

  • Overall Similarity Score: Must be less than 20%.
  • Single Source Limit: No single individual source match should exceed 3%.
  • Exclusions Applied: References / Bibliography section, small matches (less than 8–10 consecutive words), and properly quoted text with explicit citations are excluded during evaluation.

1. Minor Similarity (20% – 25%)

If minor overlaps or improper paraphrasing are detected, the manuscript is returned to the author for revision and re-phrasing prior to peer review.

2. High Similarity (> 25%)

Manuscripts exceeding 25% similarity or displaying clear signs of verbatim copying will be immediately desk-rejected without entering peer review.

3. Self-Plagiarism & Duplicate Submission

Reusing large portions of an author's own previously published works without proper citation or submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously is strictly prohibited.

Handling Post-Publication Plagiarism Allegations

If plagiarism or copyright infringement is discovered post-publication, the Editorial Board will initiate an investigation adhering to COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) flowcharts. Confirmed cases may lead to a formal notice of retraction, notification to the author's affiliated institution, and a permanent ban from future submissions to NJCSIS.

Authors are strongly advised to run their manuscripts through plagiarism detection software prior to official submission.
